Ch. 15 Process Writing essay

“Exercise Does a Body Good”

Many people dread hearing the word “exercise”, I use to be one of those people. Eating and relaxing in front of the TV is much more appealing than going out for a jog or doing aerobics. It is very simple for people to pack on the pounds, but when it comes to working them off, they hate it. People especially in this country take their bodies' and health for granted. We have been voted as the “fattest country in the world”. Exercising has many benefits for the human body. It would be very beneficial for people to get off their couches, stop being lazy, and go out there and exercise. Along with getting your body into shape and improving your physical health, it also can improve your mental health and sex life.
With the cases of heart disease, especially among women and the alarming rates of diabetes type II, especially among children soaring in this country, it is only right people turn to exercise and healthier life styles. Exercise can combat chronic diseases such as,: hypertension( high blood pressure), hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), type II diabetes, osteoporosis, and certain types of cancer. Exercise boosts circulation and delivers nutrients to your skin. It helps detoxify the body by removing toxins. Exercise also boosts oxygen to the skin and helps increase the natural production of collagen which plumps up your skin. If you are unhappy with your weight, then start walking! It's a simple known fact that physical activity burns calories. The more intense the activity is the more calories you will burn. Some suggestions are, walking, running, swimming, any organized sports activity, or simply choosing to take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Exercise also has a calming effect. School, work, home life, ect., can be really stressful for people. I for example get really stressed out when I'm stuck in traffic, or when I don't like the way another driver is driving. I start to get really irritated and I could feel my blood pressure rise. I do on occasion honk or yell when another driver cuts me off or takes a sudden brake in front of me. Exercise is a great way to blow off steam and improve your mood. Physical activity stimulates various chemicals in your brain that may leave you happier and more relaxed. Regular activity reduces the amount of stress hormones in the body, resulting in a slower heart rate, relaxed blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and reduced muscle tension. Exercising regularly in most cases will have the benefit of weight loss and toning. This process in turn can boost your self-esteem and confidence. There have also been studies that show exercise can help prevent mild to moderate depression and anxiety.
Not exercising can have negative effects on your sex life too. Physically you might be too tired to be in the mood for have sex, or you might feel out of shape and not be comfortable with having sex. Mentally you may be self conscious about your body image and weight. Exercising on a regular basis can get your body into shape, keep you energized and put you in the mood. Exercise also helps increase your sexual desire. Regular physical activity can lead to enhanced arousal for women. Also men who exercise on a regular basis are less likely to have problems with erectile dysfunction than men who don't exercise on a regular basis. Exercising can also help prolong your physical and sexual endurance and stamina.
We hear it all the time, “exercise is good for you,” well the truth is it is good for you and everyone else. We take our bodies , and our health for granted. People love to come up with excuses on why they can't exercise such as,: they don't have the time, or the money to join a gym. Well you can exercise for 20 minutes a day a couple times a week. That will only add up to a fraction of the time we spend watching TV or surfing the web. Exercise isn't confined to a gym either. It can be done almost anywhere and at anytime, whether it's swimming in the pool at your apartment complex, or walking around downtown or jogging around Lake Merritt. Exercise has many positives that people can benefit from such as better physical and mental health, and improvements in our sex lives. I use to be one of those people that took my health and exercise for granted. I now belong to a gym, I exercise on a regular basis, and when the weather gets warmer I'll start going for walks outside too. I haven't felt this healthy or in shape since my childhood, and it feels good.
