Chapter 9 Summary

This chapter is about the different forms of college writing and how college corriculums are divided into three curricular divisions. The chapter also discusses how writing and thinking skills in one class are linked to writing and thinking skills for other classes you may have. The college curriculum is divided into three groups and these groups are subdivided into specific departments. The three general groups are humanities, social sciences and natural and applied sciences. There are different types of writing in each division. In Humanites, there is: Application writing, definition, persuasion, describing a process, literay analysis, and many more. In social sciences, you may write Abstracts, summaries, cause and effect, describing a process, persuasion, proposing a solution and so forth. For natural and applied sciences, you may write a lab report, a research paper, cause and effect and application writing. As you may see, the different types of writing are not confined to one certain group but can be used in all of them, but the purpose or audience may be different. Knowing the differences of the general departments and the benefits of writing will definitely help all of you college students out there.
